Wah Tea — A Legacy Brewed in the Heart of Kangra Valley

Nestled amidst the breathtaking landscapes of Palampur, Himachal Pradesh, Wah Tea is where heritage meets harmony. Rooted in the lush tea gardens of the Kangra Valley, every cup of Wah Tea is a tribute to purity, craftsmanship, and generations of passion. Each leaf is handpicked and naturally cultivated—free from pesticides and weedicides, ensuring that what reaches your cup is nothing short of nature’s finest expression.

At Wah Tea, tea isn’t just a beverage—it’s a way of life. From the moment the leaves are plucked to the final infusion, every step reflects a deep respect for artisanal tea-making and sustainable practices. It’s this garden-to-cup philosophy that defines the brand and gives every sip its authentic, soulful taste.

Surya Prakash - A Fourth-Generation Tea Planter’s Vision

For Surya, tea isn’t a business—it’s a birthright. Coming from a long line of planters who nurtured estates across the Darjeeling tea region , Assam tea region , Dooars tea region , and Himachal Pradesh, Surya grew up surrounded by rolling green bushes and the aroma of freshly brewed orthodox teas. Today, as a fourth-generation tea planter, he personally oversees every stage of cultivation and production at Wah Tea Estate.

Living on the estate itself allows him to maintain a hands-on approach—ensuring that every leaf harvested carries the same care and authenticity that his ancestors cherished. For Surya, true “garden-to-cup” doesn’t end at removing middlemen—it means creating a direct, transparent, and sustainable connection between the grower and the tea lover.

Upasana - Blending Finance, Sustainability & Hospitality

While Surya preserves the family’s tea heritage, Upasana brings a refreshing new dimension to Wah Tea. With an MBA in Finance and a background in corporate leadership, she chose a life rooted in nature and purpose over the corporate ladder.
Today, she leads initiatives around sustainability, brand building, and hospitality—shaping the experiences at The Lodge at Wah, the family’s serene eco-retreat that allows guests to immerse themselves in tea culture and the beauty of Palampur. For her, Wah Tea is not just about brewing tea, but about brewing mindfulness, community, and conscious living.

From a Small Shop to a Tea Dynasty

The Wah Tea story traces back to the early 1900s, when Surya’s great-grandfather, Sheo Parsad, ran a humble provisions shop in Dehra Dun. His foray into selling tea from the Goodrich Tea Estate proved to be a turning point. By 1917, he took a bold step—leasing the very estate he once sourced from—marking the family’s entry into tea cultivation.
Over the next few decades, the family’s tea empire flourished across India, earning them the affectionate title of the ‘Chaiwala Family’, a legacy that continues to thrive even today.

Wah Tea Estate — The Soul of Kangra in Every Cup

Originally established in 1857 by the British, the Wah Tea Estate has withstood the test of time—from colonial history to the 1905 earthquake that reshaped Kangra Valley. Later renamed by Sir Sikander Hayat-Khan, the estate derives its name from his birthplace, Wah—a word that perfectly captures the reaction of anyone who beholds its scenic charm.

When the Chaiwala family took over in 1953, they infused it with renewed purpose and care. Generations later, Surya and his father, Deepak Prakash, continue to nurture this land with the same devotion.

Every corner of Wah Estate tells a story—the crisp, pine-scented air, the rhythm of the tea pluckers, and the tranquil views that seem untouched by time. Today, Wah Tea stands as a symbol of resilience, authenticity, and timeless Himalayan charm.

Sip. Savour. Smile — That’s Wah.

From the misty Kangra hills to your teacup, Wah Tea invites you to experience tea in its purest form. Sustainably grown, passionately crafted, and steeped in heritage—every sip is a whisper of the mountains and a celebration of India’s tea legacy.
