Gopaldhara Rare Exclusive Darjeeling Purple Green Tea

A rare purple leaf tea with beauty, health, and heritage in every sip

The Darjeeling Purple Tea is a rare treasure produced at the high-altitude Gopaldhara Tea Estate (5500–7000 ft). Plucking is done with extreme care, where only the leaves showing a distinct purple hue are chosen by the most skilled workers under close supervision. The leaves are then hand-sorted with minimal use of machinery, ensuring purity and quality. Since this tea skips the oxidation process, it retains its natural antioxidants and polyphenols, making it one of the healthiest teas available.

Like all teas, it comes from the Camellia sinensis plant, but this variety is derived from a special mutated Assam cultivar. The plant produces higher levels of anthocyanins to withstand strong sunlight—these pigments are the same antioxidants found in blueberries and raspberries, giving the leaves their unique purple appearance and exceptional health benefits.

When brewed, the tea has a light body and sweet flavor, closer to a strong white tea rather than traditional black or green teas. It carries no bitterness or astringency, only a pleasing smoothness with a delicate purple tint in the liquor. Add a few drops of lime, and the infusion transforms into a beautiful pink hue, enhancing the experience both visually and in taste.

Health Benefits

  • Abundant in anthocyanins, known for their cardiovascular benefits
  • May help lower cholesterol and support healthy blood sugar metabolism
  • Rich in antioxidants that promote vision health and anti-cancer properties
  • Gentle, sweet cup with minimal caffeine for mindful daily sipping

Tasting Notes

  • Dry leaf : Greenish black
  • Infused leaf : Dark green
  • Liquor color : Slight purplish hue. If you add few drops of lime to it the cup of liquor turns into a beautiful pink colour.
  • Sweetness : Smooth to drink
  • Astringency : No astringency
  • Flavor : Strong White Tea Kind of Flavour.
  • Aftertaste : Usual Darjeeling Aftertaste

The Tea Story

Darjeeling Purple Tea is an innovative rarity, grown from a natural mutation of the Assam cultivar. The shoots take on a purple hue instead of green, making them highly prized for both their beauty and health benefits. Produced in very small quantities at Gopaldhara Tea Estate, this tea represents a meeting of heritage and innovation. With its delicate taste, unique color-changing character, and exceptional wellness properties, it is truly a rare gem of Darjeeling.
