About Ésah Tea

Assam, known worldwide for its rich tea legacy, has given rise to a new disruptor in the global tea industry — Esah Tea, a direct-to-consumer (D2C) brand redefining how we experience a cup of tea. Esah Tea has grown rapidly by blending Assam’s traditional tea culture with innovation, sustainability, and ethical sourcing. A World-First Innovation: Microplastic-Free Tea Bags Esah Tea has introduced the world’s first 100% biodegradable cotton tea bags, free from both plastic and chemicals. This innovation came in response to a McGill University study that revealed how conventional plastic tea bags release billions of harmful microplastic particles into a single brew.

By replacing them with handmade cotton bags, Esah Tea not only safeguards consumer health but also takes a bold step toward environmental well-being. These cotton tea bags are available across popular variants such as Honey Lemon Green Tea, Natural Blue Tea, and Assam Breakfast Tea. Beyond just a product launch, this move is being hailed as a paradigm shift in sustainable beverage consumption. A key innovation from the brand is the development of what is cited as the world’s first certified natural, handmade cotton teabags—completely microplastic-free and designed as a healthier, eco-friendly alternative to conventional tea bags. The brand’s growth journey has also been strengthened through strategic investment support from NEDFi, reinforcing its mission to build a sustainable, globally competitive tea brand rooted in Assam. Supported by initiatives such as Assam Startup and NEATEHUB, Bijit Sarma has helped position Ésah Tea as one of Northeast India’s most visible and respected startups in the premium tea segment—successfully linking Assam’s rich tea heritage with a contemporary, conscious market presence.

From Assam to World

What began as a niche premium tea brand in Assam has today expanded far beyond India’s borders. Esah Tea exports to the USA, South Korea, the UK, and more than 10 other countries. Its strong online presence through its website and platforms like Amazon further strengthens its global reach, making authentic Assam tea accessible worldwide. Empowering Farmers, Supporting Sustainability Esah Tea’s growth is deeply rooted in its ethical sourcing model. The company sources tea leaves directly from small tea growers in Assam, bypassing middlemen and ensuring fair compensation for farmers. Their mission is ambitious yet impactful — to build a transparent, farmer-first tea ecosystem. Expanding the Tea Experience With more than 20 tea variants ranging from artisanal and herbal blends to flavored teas and instant chai, Esah Tea caters to diverse palates. Specialized packaging — including vacuum-sealed loose-leaf tea and nitrogen-flushed cotton bags — ensures every cup delivers freshness at its peak. A Brew with Purpose Esah Tea is more than just a tea brand; it is a movement toward sustainability, health, and fair trade. By combining Assam’s heritage with forward-thinking innovation, the brand has carved a unique identity in the global tea market. Every sip of Esah Tea tells a story — of farmers, freshness, and a future where tea is healthier, cleaner, and more sustainable.
